Fascinating Viruses: Prof. T.H.Thung, the first professor in virology

Professor Thung was an extraordinary professor for a variety of reasons. Not only was he the very first ever professor of virology, both in Wageningen and worldwide, but he was also in many ways a connector. The online exhibition of Fascinating Viruses includes the history of virology, added to the story of Professor Thung’s scientific career.

Stories Plants Tell: Flora Batava 1800-1934

The Flora Batava is an illustrated overview of all Dutch plants, mushrooms, mosses and algae known in the 19th century. In June 2023 a special reissue of the Flora Batava was published on the initiative of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek and publisher Lannoo. Several scientists from different disciplines, including WUR scientists, (amateur) botanists, artists and plant lovers have contributed to this book.

Special Collections, a department of WUR Library, offers collections of rare, old and vulnerable documents that need particular care and attention, in management, conservation and user accessibility. The collections include garden and landscape designs, nursery catalogues, aerial photographs and academic heritage. A large part is digitally available through the WUR Image Collections.
